Fueling Our Potential Through Nutrition

Welcome to our May exploration for our Lift Your Mood, Lift Your Life project. This month, we embarked on a delicious journey of discovery as we explored the incredible impact that nutrition has on our health and well-being.

Here are a few of the amazing things we learned:

  • Eating a balanced diet with fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can provide us with essential vitamins and minerals that support brain health and improve our mood. 🥦🍇

  • Fueling our bodies with nutritious foods gives us the energy we need to stay focused and concentrate better in school and other activities. 💪📚

  • Certain foods, like dark chocolate and nuts, contain nutrients that can boost our brain function and help us think more clearly. 🍫🌰

  • A healthy diet can reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, and promote a more positive outlook on life. 🌞😊

  • Taking care of our bodies through good nutrition not only improves our physical health but also boosts our self-esteem and confidence. 🌟💪

Our Adventures in Nutrition:

🧑‍🍳 Chef Dale MacKay

Our journey into the world of nutrition kicked off with an exciting visit from the very first winner of Top Chef Canada, the renowned Chef Dale MacKay! He enthralled us with tales of his culinary triumphs, while also sharing the hurdles he overcame along the way.

Chef Dale told us that he wasn’t always a superstar. He quit school at 14 and got a job washing dishes. It wasn’t easy, but with hard work and determination he went from washing dishes, to working with the legendary chef Gordon Ramsay, to winning Top Chef Canada. He’s traveled and cooked all over the world, and opened his own award winning restaurants right here in Saskatchewan!

It was super cool hearing about Chef Dale’s journey, showing us that no matter where we start, we can rise to the top. He taught us it's okay to face challenges, and with passion and determination, we can all achieve our dreams!

🥦 Nutritionist, Ann Jones

Next up was our visit from Nutritionist, Ann Jones. Ann didn't just talk about eating healthy foods, but also how good nutrition helps our minds too. We learned that eating fruits, veggies, and balanced meals can not only make our bodies stronger but also keep our minds happy and healthy. She showed us that the right food can boost our mood, help us concentrate better in class, and even make us feel more positive. The teachers were impressed with how brave the students were about tasting new and nutritious foods!

🍲 Potluck

Our potluck lunch was a huge success! The teachers all brought dishes from different cultures, and the variety was amazing! Some of our favourites were crepes, enchiladas, sushi, and falafels. Experiencing different cuisines not only expanded our palates, but also helped us understand and respect different cultures better. Thank you teachers for this delicious and enlightening experience!

What we learned about Nutrition this month:

Our month exploring the connection between nutrition and mental health was a real eye-opener! We discovered that healthy eating is not just about staying fit, but also about staying happy and positive. Choosing nutritious foods is like giving your brain a superpower! 🧠💥🦸‍♀️

Stay tuned for next month’s adventures in our ‘Lift Your Mood, Lift Your Life’ project.

Until then, let's make delicious and nourishing choices to support our mental well-being and unlock our full potential. 🥗🧠💥
